Pirates Vs. Buccaneers: The Age Old QuestionPART II: Booty - A Common Goal Between Pirates and Buccaneers? We have determined that pirates and buccanners are culturally different. Pirates attack ships on the high-seas who have strayed away from their convoy or ships that dared to wander out unattended. Buccaneers, on the otherhand, preyed upon Spanish ships and settlements in the West Indies during the 17th Century. Upon further research, it can be determined that bucaneers were able to parlay their "piracy" (or buccaneer-ing) into a quasi-legitimate businesses. But old habits die hard as many buccaneers continued to act unscrupulously in politics and business. The differences between pirates and buccaneers are staggering. The pirate was unrefined, dirty, filthy, unkempt. The buccaneer, on the other hand, was often handsome, dashing, clean, kempt. Yet, they pushed towards a common goal: Booty. Booty: 1: plunder taken (as in war); especially: plunder taken on land as distinguished from prizes taken at sea. 2: a rich gain or prize. At first glance, it appears as if the buccaneer would be the only party interested in booty, considering that the buccaneer engaged in much of the plundering of land-based settlements. However, I would argue the pirate continues to seek "a rich gain or prize" and that would include land-based prizes and riches. The perceived size and shape of the booty does not matter. The booty can be big or small, hard or soft, wide or narrow, round or flat. The dashing buccaneer and the filthy pirate lust after the same riches. I challenge the buccaneer and the pirate to band together and fight for one true goal. Buccaneers and pirates must put aside their differences and work together for the booty. Selfish interets must be set aside in order to help work towards amassing a great stockpile of booty. Imagine the confusion on the high-seas with out an alliance between buccaneers and pirates! After a long day of plundering on land, buccaneers load up their ships and set sail only to be attacked by dirty pirates! The booty passes from buccaneer to pirate and in many cases, from pirate to pirate. The booty is never used to its full potential! An alliance between buccaneers and pirates would allow both parties to collect their booty in a central location and build a rouge empire! An empire that could overthrow the civilized world and lead civilization into a fascinating world of gun-powder and rum and delicious food. I will be more than happy to negotiate a buccaneer-pirate alliance. PART III: The Roadblocks to Peace Next Time: Can a pirate trust a buccanner? Can a buccaneer trust a pirate? |
